For better life of people

Food Security and Household Asset Building

  • 3463 goats were provided for women goat credit groups of about 1562 poorest women headed households.
  • 41 community animal health workers (CAHWs) were trained and equipped with drugs and appropriate veterinary materials;
  • Establishment of drug revolving fund for the CAHWs;
  • Implementation of Tsetse-fly control activities;
  • Seasonal Employment Generation Scheme for rural access road construction;
  • Establishing cereal bank cooperatives in three Kebeles, of which the Mechelo consumers cooperative is now very active in the woreda in providing several market services (especially consumer goods);
  • Availing fund for community micro-project (3 grinding mill projects, 140 oxen fattening projects, and a number of handcraft group projects);
  • Three Energy saving stove preparation centre for economically poor women in the three Kebeles.
  • Agricultural farm inputs, capacity building trainings for small landholder farmers to adapt with climate changes.

Health

  • Construction and equipping of 5 health posts; maintained 1 damaged HP
  • Under construction of Karat Primary Hospital Emergency Building by KDA Membership
  • Support of start-up drugs for one health post;
  • Provision of Motorbike for two health posts;
  • Creating awareness of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control through community conversations, trainings, IEC Materials distribution, organising clubs, supporting PLWHA Associations, and supporting OVCs;
  • Promoting family planning through IEC material distribution and provision of awareness raising trainings;
  • Training mid-wives for safe rural deliveries where the chance of visiting health institution is unlikely.
  • Inclusive latrines constructions in different institutions.

Environmental Rehabilitation and Protection

  • Raise over 7.2 million different trees seedling production through establishment of community nurseries
  • Support private (individual level) nurseries
  • Watershed based environmental rehabilitation activities by participation of community (such as area closure, plantation, and soil & water conservation structures development); many area’s were recovered from the degradations and now become fully a covered with forest trees.

Water supply, Sanitation and Hygiene Provision

  • Geophysics studies to identify water potential sites;
  • Bore hole drillings and development through motorizing, pipeline connection, construction of water distribution points to provide safe water for the rural community and institutions;
  • Maintenance and development of shallow wells and spring water sources to provide safe water for community in rural areas;
  • Construction of institutional roof (rain) water harvesting systems;
  • Community Led Total Sanitation and Hygiene (CLTSH) approach implementation in 12 Kebeles of Konso to promote household level construction and use of latrines and end open defecation;
  • Establishment of WASHCOs and provision of capacity building training;
  • Provision of sanitation and hygiene trainings to community members;
  • Construction of institutional VIP latrines.
  • Construction of public VIP latrines in villages.
  • Provision of rain water harvesting plastic Roto’s

Tourism Development

  • Support for construction of Konso Cultural Centre and management
